Aggression during a drinking episode: put family safety first
Intoxication does not excuse violence. During a threat, leave danger rather than trying to win an argument about treatment.

When to leave and call 112
If the person threatens or uses force, has a weapon, attempts to drive or threatens self-harm, move to safety and call 112. Do not block an exit or wrestle objects away.
Share only what you feel ready to share. A professional can distinguish an emergency from a planned-care need and suggest one realistic next step.
Talk only when it is safer
Discuss treatment during a sober period. Name specific events, your boundary and one next step, such as a joint call or assessment.
You can begin without sharing your whole personal history
For a first enquiry, a short description of the situation is enough. You do not have to give your full name or share sensitive details; a specialist will calmly explain the possible next steps.
- No judgement or pressure
- Only information needed for care is discussed
- Privacy rules and lawful limits are explained before treatment
