How to choose a rehabilitation centre: 12 questions before paying
A polished website and a promise of anonymity do not replace verification of licence, team, safety and aftercare.

Check the legal and clinical basis
Ask for the legal entity name, exact address, licence and the services it permits. Clarify who makes medical decisions and where emergency care is provided.
Share only what you feel ready to share. A professional can distinguish an emergency from a planned-care need and suggest one realistic next step.
Ask for the programme in plain language
A responsible centre can explain routine, methods, group leaders' qualifications, family involvement and completion criteria. Vague “proprietary methods” and 100% outcomes deserve scrutiny.
Discuss rights and privacy
Ask about contact, visits, phones, leaving the programme and complaints. Find out what data is collected, who can access it and when confidentiality has lawful limits.
Ask what happens after discharge
Quality programmes plan continuing care in advance. Ask about follow-up, crisis planning, family support, local clinicians and the response to relapse.
You can begin without sharing your whole personal history
For a first enquiry, a short description of the situation is enough. You do not have to give your full name or share sensitive details; a specialist will calmly explain the possible next steps.
- No judgement or pressure
- Only information needed for care is discussed
- Privacy rules and lawful limits are explained before treatment
